Here's the scoop on these awesomer-than-awesome vintage Italian earrings: they were purchased by Carl Schimmel on the island of Murano in the 1950s. I only know this because he told me himself in his Manhattan shop. They are hand-blown long "canes" that are then cut cross-wise to yield small discs used in ornamental jewelry, paperweights, chandeliers...and these are some of the best I've ever seen. The pieces are called millefiori (meaning "thousand flowers"). These little yellow stars, outlined in blue and ringed with the prettiest true red, are more than just magnificent.
Each star is unique; we've matched them up as close as possible in pairs.
Silver-plated posts and backings.
